定番のお菓子

現代の「ハロウィーン」では、子供達が仮装してお菓子を貰うことが定番になっています。
「ハロウィーン」が一般の人々の間に広がる以前は、キリスト教徒が「死者の日」と呼ばれる十一月二日に「魂のケーキ」と呼ばれている四角い(干しぶどう等が入った)パンケーキを持ち歩いたり、それが無くなったら家々を回って恵んでもらいながら色々な場所を歩いていました。

また、現在のブルターニュと呼ばれる地域に住んでいるケルト民族の一部分では、「小さな角(Kornigou) 」と呼ばれるお菓子を焼くことで「ハロウィーン」の元になった「サムハイン祭」の訪れを予告したそうです。
この「小さな角」とは、あの世の王国へ戻るときに角を落とす冬の神を記念するために作られるので、枝角(えだつの)の形に焼かれたケーキを指します。

そんな「ハロウィーン」も、現在ではアメリカで大々的に行われるイベントと思われているので、この時期のお菓子作りの本にもアメリカで食べられる菓子を掲載する場合があります。
そんなアメリカで「ハロウィーン」の定番となっているお菓子とは、一つはトウモロコシの粒を模した三色の「キャンディーコーン(candy corn)」です。
材料は主に砂糖、コーンシロップ、蜂蜜で「ハロウィーン」用の「キャンディーコーン」の配色は、一番下が黄色、真ん中がオレンジ、上が白の三色になります。

また、アメリカでトウモロコシの他に食べられる事が多いのが林檎です。
そして、日本でも馴染みがある「りんご飴(キャンディ・アップル/candy apple)」も人気のお菓子です。
アメリカでも「りんご飴」は林檎を甘いシロップで多い、スティック付きの形で売られています。
西洋では古来から秋の収穫祭の時期によく振舞われているので「ハロウィン」では定番となっています。

In the addition to corn, an apple is often eaten in the United States.

And, candy apples that are also familiar in Japan are also popular sweets.
A candy apple in the United States is made of an apple covered with sweet syrup and sold with a stick.
Since it has been often served in the time of harvest festival in autumn over the centuries in the West, it has been classic in Halloween.
