魔女と不思議な力
西洋では「ハロウィーン」が行われる夜は妖精や魔物などが暮らす「別の世界」の入口が開いて人々が迷い込んだり、時に連れ去れれる日だと信じられていました。
なので、その日に「占い」をすると未来が見えたり、「呪い」の場合は成功する事が多いと信じられてきました。
この事について証明できる科学的な根拠や、本当だと断言できる証拠は何もありませんが、今でも私達が暮らしている世界とは違う「異世界」の存在を信じる人は少なくありません。
科学が発達した現代人の中でも「異世界」や神秘的な力を信じている人が居るのですから、更に昔の人々にとってカードや一見すると不気味や道具で儀式を行う女性（国によっては男性の場合もある）が未来を占ったり、時に願い事が叶う場面は想像以上に驚くべき事だったと思います。
この様な儀式は、詳しく調べてみると先住民達の「祭」や「年間行事」の一つに過ぎなかったという場合もあります。
しかし、それがキリスト教の普及と共に違う神を奉る「不気味な儀式」という部分が強調される様になって、儀式の本来の意味ではなくイメージだけが先行して広まり儀式を行う人々の中で特にイメージに残る「魔女」等が「ハロウィーン」の日に人を「異世界」に連れ去る妖精や魔物と同じ扱いをされるようになったと思われます。
そんな時代背景があったので季節を問わず活動していた「魔女」が何時の間にか「ハロウィーン」に欠かせないキャラクターの一つとして数えられるようになったのでしょう。
更に全身を黒で統一したイメージも暗闇で人々を狙っている異世界の住人という考え方が今も残ったためだと考えられています。

A Witch and the Magical power
It was believed in the West that the entrance to the another world where fairies and demons lived was opened at night in Halloween and people strayed into or sometimes had been took away.
Therefore, it has been believed that fortune-telling tells the future on that day and a curse is often successful.
Although there are no scientific evidence to be proved nor evidence that can be affirmed, even now not a few people believe in the existence of the another world which is different from a world we are living in.
Even though science has progressed now, some people believe in the another world and the mystical powers. It would have been incredible for people in the old days that a woman (sometimes a man depending on countries) made a fortune-telling by cards or eerie tools and sometimes their wishes come true.
Looking into such a ritual in detail, sometimes it was just one of of the festivals or annual events by the indigenous people.
However, along with the spread of Christianity, it seems that the image of eerie ritual has been emphasized and only its image has become spread rather than the original meaning of the ritual and a witch that especially left in the image has been treated as a fairy or a demon that lead into another world in the day of Halloween.
Because of such a historical background, a witch who was active regardless of the season would have been regarded as one of the characters that are indispensable to Halloween.
Also it is considered that the idea remains that all black fashion gives the impression of the residents who live in another world and aim at people from the dark place.
